For artists
Publish the story,
not just the track.
The place you document what you made and why — once, structured, shareable. Not liner notes lost in a Bandcamp description. A proper archive of your creative intent that grows with your career.
What you’ll write
A palette of story sections.
Each section is a short structured invitation, not a form. Pick whichever fit at whichever level — your artist profile, a collection, a single, an album. Use the same section twice with different titles when one framing isn’t enough. Add a Custom section for anything outside the list.
- Identity
- Who you are, your creative philosophy, what you're trying to do.
- Influences and lineage
- The formative works and how they changed your thinking.
- Timeline
- Key turning points, structured chronologically.
- Intent
- Why this release. The question it asks of the listener.
- Inspiration
- What fed this — films, books, places, experiences.
- Origin
- When, where, and how it came to exist. The story of its making.
- Production
- Arrangement, recording approach, sonic vision. Technical choices.
- Lyrical intent
- Line-by-line meaning, references, language choices.
- Aesthetic
- Mood, colour, visual references, sleeve direction.
- Collaborators
- Who played what, and what they contributed beyond their instrument.
- Custom
- Anything outside the sections above. You name it; you decide what fits.
The programme before the curtain rises.
Every single, collection, and album on Backstory arrives with the artist’s own account — the context the listener walks in with.
Monetization
You get paid when your pages do work.
Every published gear mention becomes an affiliate link where we can match the brand and model. When a reader buys something, you get 25% of the commission — attributed to the specific page that sent them. No minimums, no waiting for streaming royalties to clear.
